Professionals Resiliency

In dealing with those who are undergoing great suffering, if you feel burnout setting in, if you feel demoralized and exhausted, it is best, for the sake of everyone, to withdraw and restore yourself. The point is to have a long-term perspective.
— Dalai Lama

Compassion Fatigue, Secondary Trauma, Occupational Burn-Out are just some of the terms used to describe the symptoms that can arise during a career serving others.  Legacy Motion’s Professional Resiliency Program offers tools for professionals in the fields of Humanitarian Aid, NGO Staff, Medical Professionals, Independent Primary Caregivers, Animal and Environmental Advocates and Activists, Teachers and Civil Servants. Our comprehensive program focuses on restorative practices and the mind/body connection by combining traditional yogic techniques, mindfulness, and somatic psychosocial education in order to assist the body and brain in finding balance.  Our curriculum includes functional anatomy, techniques from Hatha, Yin and Satyananda Yoga, as well as somatic methods that begin the process of neurobiological recovery.  Our Professional Resiliency Program provides individuals with the tools to reignite their empowering strengths in order to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while assisting in improved mental, physical and emotional overall wellbeing.

Refugee Resiliency

Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult-once we truly understand and accept it-then life is no longer difficult.
— M Scott Peck, The Road Less Travelled

Resilience is defined simply as the ability to recover quickly from difficulties.  It is synonymous with flexibility and toughness; qualities that are also associated with physical strength.  However, how do we ensure not only physical resilience, but mental and emotional resilience during difficult times?  Legacy Motion is directly addressing these challenges through our Refugee Resiliency Program.  This program offers tools to individuals facing the harsh realities of displacement due to climate change, terrorism, war, political and economic strife.  This program promotes mind/body therapy practices to enhance resiliency, embodiment, capacity building, adaptation, connection, community and peace building.  Using various vetted somatic therapy techniques Legacy Motion assists displaced people in the discovery of self agency to encourage and support self healing and transformation to ensure positive mental and emotional health.  Our Refugee Resiliency Program also aids in the formation of community self care classes led by community members.  Through collaboration with local organizations and leaders, Legacy Motion ensures cultural considerations and appropriateness within each community participating in our program.

In a disordered mind, as in a disordered body, soundness of health is impossible.
— Marcus Tullius Cicero

Legacy Motion works with various departments and professionals within the healthcare community to create and implement programs curated around our Movement Based Resiliency Facilitation (MBRF), which pulls tools from somatic practices aimed at enhancing patient rehabilitation, recovery and resiliency from surgeries, chronic illness, and physical injuries.  These programs focus on encouraging the mind/body connection for the patient both pre and post op by training healthcare staff in facilitating breathe awareness, basic posture series, and interception for the patient both one on one and in a group setting.
